its a LET, nicol made no attempt to allow power unrestricted direct access to the ball… he stood there admiring his shot 😀 very poor judgement by the ref. on the plus side what a fantastic rally!!!
it was a no let.
jonathan had missed the ball…he was caught off guard when peter attacked his cross court mid way….he bumped into nicol on purpose…to get a let. . we squash players do this all the time..
this entire game has bogus calls. the referees were trying to make it so they wouldnt call minimal interference lets, but they were a bit too strict at some points.
thats not going to happen. squash courts are expensive and for this reason i dont believe it will ever become as popular as football. if it joins the olympics.. it will grow.
I do not know what it is, but for some reason sports like Squash and Racquetball do not seem to be too popular compared to Football(Soccer), and Tennis.
I live in the USA and am a big fan of R-Ball but it’s just too damn difficult to find courts and partners to play with. As someone said in one of the comments below, the local community needs to get free access to such courts if these games are to grow!!
it used to be big, but after the squash boom in the 80’s its been losing popularity and now i its considered a bit geeky. its nothing but soccer these days
Squash is in deed huge in the UK and some European countries such as France, Holland, Spain etc. however it never gets close to tennis’ popularity no matter where in the planet…you never see squash on television, or being talked about on the radio, its mainly on the internet where everything happens regarding squash.
I thought squash was huge in Britain. Look at all the great players like John White and Peter Nicol. Is squash considered an “elite” sport in Britain?
Squash is a great sport even if I do not play it. I played 20 yrs ago. Spending most of my time playing with my two sons. The ten year old is fast and has great hands. Unfortunately, he is very small. Still crossing my fingers when he will grow.
tennis is much more popular. the club i play at in a town called bolton (outskirts of manchester) the squash team is tiny. their having trouble keeping it going unfortunately.
I agree. It seems like outdoor squash courts can be built. Shouldn’t be that complicated. Tennis courts have to be resurfaced around every 5 yrs. I am talking about hard courts. But your right, the “elite” factor needs to go away. Tennis got rid of that image back in the 1970’s.

Power wasn’t going to be able to get back in time to return the shot so he deliberately bumped into Nicol to try for the let.

That particular female ref has always been crap, but that call could well have gone either way.
